Bachelor of Communication Studies

Undergraduate Leadership and Excellence Scholarship (Communication Studies)

The School of Communication Studies will offer up to three scholarships for full-time students accepted into the Bachelor of Communication Studies degree. Each scholarship is for one year's tuition.

Postgraduate Studies

Communication Studies Postgraduate Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to promote the postgraduate programmes in Communication Studies nationally and to encourage and support New Zealand citizens or permanent residents to enrol in a postgraduate course of study.

AUT/PIMA Pasifika Media scholarship

Pacific Islands Media Association logoThese awards are sponsored and organised by the School's Pacific Media Centre and Office of Pasifika Advancement in partnership with the Pacific Islands Media Association (PIMA) for New Zealand-resident Pacific Islanders seeking media qualifications. Full tuition fees, renewable each year based on satisfactory results.

The scholarship is offered to assist one undergraduate and one postgraduate full-time student in Communication Studies.

Asia journalism internships

Asia NZ logoThese internships are sponsored by the Asia NZ Foundation and organised by School's Pacific Media Centre. Three internships are available (preferably for graduates) at two destinations:

Plus two scholarships are available for the ACICIS Journalism Professional Practicum in Jakarta (six week international journalism course and learn Bahasa, internships on Indonesia English-language media):

Asia NZ logoAsian Journalism Fellowship (postgraduate)

A one-semester or one-year fellowship worth about $5000 for a promising young Asian journalist to be attached to the Pacific Media Centre as a resource person and to undertake postgraduate studies such as the BCS (Hons) programme.

To encourage wider diversity among the journalism intake into the Bachelor of Communication Studies and into the media industry. Available to fulltime students of Maori, Pacific Island or Asian ethnicity.

 Radio Network logoThe Radio Network scholarship and internship

Awarded to outstanding Radio and Journalism graduates. It includes $3000 and a six month paid internship at New Zealand's top rating radio company.

Churches Broadcasting Commission Broadcasting scholarship

The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage successful tertiary study in the field of secular broadcasting - The Electronic Mass Media - by young Christian men and women who intend pursuing a career in secular broadcasting.
