Water (sustainable operations at AUT)

Efficient water management is an area where AUT is increasing its focus.

Water efficiency plan for all campuses

In early 2016, AUT and Watercare completed a water management diagnostics session which identified AUT’s strengths and weaknesses in terms of water management. This information is being used to develop a water efficiency management plan that can be implemented across the campuses.

Harvesting rainwater at the North Campus

Two underground rainwater harvesting tanks at the North Campus collect rainwater from the roofs of AF and AJ buildings. Rainwater from these tanks is used for flushing toilets in the AF and AJ buildings. Approximately 784kL of water was harvested from this system in 2015 – enough water for approximately eight people's annual water consumption.
