Current campus updates

Over the next 10 years AUT’s campuses will undergo significant development that will improve student and staff experiences at AUT. A $400 million budget over this period will see construction and refurbishments happening across the City, South and North Campuses.

AUT City Campus

Current campus updates

  • New road markings are in place on St Paul Street defining mobility, motorcycle and loading zone parking. These new markings will be in place for the duration of the ETD construction period. The original parks will be reinstated once the development is complete
  • The St Paul St car park is now closed - consider using public transport to get to the City Campus
  • The Muslim Prayer Room (formerly located in WW) has moved to level 0 in WT, with access from Lorne St
  • The pedestrian path from St Paul St to Mount St is closed

New Engineering, Technology and Design building on St Paul Street


Construction is already underway. When completed the new building will be home to AUT’s School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. The new building will include an entry plaza, flexible delivery laboratories showcasing AUT technological innovation, a café, exhibition space, an open project studio, collaborative social learning spaces, landscaped outdoor spaces and offices.

  • Estimated date of completion: Semester 2, 2018
  • Size of new building: 18,000 m²
  • Sustainability measures included in design of building: glazed plant rooms displaying the different mechanical systems (enabling the building to be used as an educational tool), high performance external facades and sun shading to limit energy consumption and improve natural light distribution, low energy-use light fittings

AUT South Campus

Current campus updates

The new MH building at the AUT South Campus provides additional large and small lecture spaces, collaborative social learning areas for students, computer labs, function and conference space, research and postgraduate areas.

  • Cost: $56 million
  • Size of new building: 11,000 m²
  • Sustainability measures include: future provision for on-site stormwater processing management and treatment, on-site waste water system with botanical wetland, facade and building services solutions to reduce energy consumption



AUT North Campus

Current campus updates

  • AUT’s health clinics have moved to new premises; the Northmed building at 3 Akoranga Drive (800m from AUT’s North Campus) 
  • The Northmed building has been fitted out to accommodate AUT’s clinics
  • Clinics moved include the Akoranga Integrated Health Clinics; Health, Counselling and Wellbeing Centre and the Balance Clinic

New A1 building

Planning and design for North Campus’ A1 building is still underway. The development will create a health and sciences precinct. A lecture theatre, science labs, classrooms, research facilities, office space and collaborative learning and social spaces for students are included in the plan.
