The Master of Educational Leadership at the AUT South Campus in Manukau will expand and enhance the knowledge and professional practice skills of experienced educators and leaders, equipping them with the skills to contribute to the development of professional educational practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Entry requirements

Completed one of the following:

  • Relevant four-year bachelor's degree
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree with honours
  • Relevant postgraduate diploma
  • Bachelor's degree OR graduate diploma AND a relevant professional qualification or experience approved by the dean (or representative) to be equivalent to one year of advanced study.

An applicant must have completed the entry requirement with a minimum of a B grade average or higher in papers at level 7 or equivalent. All applicants must have at least three years of relevant professional experience.

Structure and content

The Master of Educational Leadership has a strong focus on in-depth applied professional learning with a research-based pathway and a paper-based pathway. In the research pathway you have the opportunity to investigate in-depth an issue, innovation or problem of your choice.

Students completing the Professional (paper-based) Pathway of the MEdL may also choose an additional paper from one of our other Master’s programmes. Please consult with your Programme Leader if you wish to do a paper from the Master of Education or Master of Education Practice tables.
