Support and advice
We understand how hard it can be when you start living and studying in New Zealand. We are here to help you to overcome any difficulties. You can use Chinese language to ask about almost anything, from AUT regulations, enrolment, programme selection and study techniques.
Our services are free and confidential. Drop in or make an appointment with a Chinese Student Advisor.
When you begin studying at AUT, you may find the learning styles different from those that you used before. Essay writing, class examinations, group works and oral presentations can be challenging. In the first four weeks of each semester, the Chinese Centre works with the Learning Development Centre and school lecturers to organise a series of workshops to help you learn important skills and survival strategies. Make sure you take advantage of these workshops which are especially organised for Chinese students.
For more information about the academic workshops, please see workshops and events.

We offer a free peer tutoring service to Chinese students who are experiencing some difficulties in mastering the material of a particular paper. Assistance with study skills, time management and organisation is also available.

Social activities and networking
Your life in New Zealand should be about more than study. Socialising, networking, making new friends, experiencing New Zealand outdoor activities and fitting into the local culture should be part of your life here. The AUT Chinese Centre, in association with the AUT Chinese Student Association, organises various social activities such as a free BBQ, a ski trip, camping, sightseeing and a mid-semester ball. We also organise for our Chinese students to participate in community volunteer work and contribute cultural performances to major events in New Zealand. We encourage you to make the most of your life in New Zealand and enjoy the experience!
For information on our upcoming activities please see workshops and events.
The Chinese Centre provides a home-like space for all Chinese students at AUT. You are welcome to use the Centre for studying, group assignments or just relaxing between classes. Here you can meet students from your programme and make friends with them. Additional resources include 5 AUT standard computers, newly subscribed Chinese magazines, and a printer. You can use your ID to borrow the magazines and enjoy reading them at home. This is your home at AUT!
