The world of communication studies at AUT is exciting and varied. Studying digital media as a part of a communications degree at AUT will provide you with a challenging and fun student experience, and the best foundation to launch your career.

Our Digital Media major in the Bachelor of Communication Studies (BCS) opens up careers in visual communication, animation, moving image, digital video, digital visual effects, web and interactive media production, interface design and learning communication.

As a digital media student, you operate at the interface of media communication and technology, learning how to make digital work communicate effectively, look great, sound great and tell a great story. You learn to recognise new creative markets as they emerge, manage teams and projects and design new workflows. You manage media projects, and learn how to deliver your work via mobile devices, broadcast media or broadband communication, from the smallest to the largest screens, on time and on budget.

Students choose from papers covering a range of specialist digital media topics.

Most papers last one semester and are worth 15 points. Students must complete 120 points each year (360 points for the entire degree). In each year students study core (compulsory) papers, and select other papers from a range of options.
