Workplace experience

Student Profile — Lisa Leech

Lisa Leech studied a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in criminology and conflict resolution. In her third year she had the opportunity to join the Peace Foundation for her co-operative education paper and at the end of her placement, they offered her a job. Lisa is not alone - many AUT students are offered a job after proving themselves while completing a workplace experience.

At AUT 89% of students do workplace experience as a part of their degree. It’s a great way to build confidence and connect with your chosen industry before you graduate.

Industry experience is a key part of AUT's social sciences programmes. In the final year of your Bachelor of Arts degree, you spend one semester working with an organisation on a project related to your major. Workplace experience (co-operative education) and our strong industry links provide our students with work opportunities in a variety of major New Zealand organisations.

Co-operative education gives you a great start in the industry while still being able to get feedback from AUT lecturers. With this unique structure and the industry knowledge it provides, our graduates are not only experienced but have a distinctive qualification that sets them apart.
